The Sustainable Iowa Land Trust (SILT) has preserved 1,200 acres on 16 farms since 2015. The West Branch nonprofit’s mission is to preserve Iowa farmland for sustainable table food. A new campaign, Circle Our Cities, sets a goal of creating 10 permanent food farms around 10 Iowa cities in 10 years.

Fairfield FFA helps clean Leesburg - The Times Gazette

The Fairfield FFA recently had 27 members volunteer for the Leesburg Clean-up Day. Members helped clean up the village by pulling weeds, laying mulch, picking up sticks, painting the picnic tables and shelter houses at the park, washing the fire pit and veterans memorial, and picking up trash. The FFA said it enjoyed giving back to the community that always supports it.

McClain FFA team 6th in the state - The Times Gazette

Five McClain FFA members competed April 29 in a FFA contest called Agricultural Issues, a group event where members design a skit based on a relevant issue in agriculture. The members have to create a portfolio answering questions about their topic. They also have to present their skit to five community members relevant to their topic. The McClain Agricultural Issues team placed sixth in the state and are looking forward to competing in this contest for years to come.
