"Our farm and ranch communities are the backbone of our great nation. But if these communities are going to thrive in the days and years ahead, we need access to the same resources and essential services that our suburban and urban neighbors enjoy. We need to rebuild our rural infrastructure to incentivize more business growth, ensure our communities have consistent access to the healthcare, and finally bridge the digital divide."
With each new year comes the time-honored tradition of setting resolutions.

According to researchers at Virginia Tech, the U.S. dairy industry contributes approximately 1.58 percent of the country’s total greenhouse gas emissions. A commonly suggested solution to reduce greenhouse gas output has been to reduce or eliminate this industry in favor of plant production. Yet according to the research, the removal of dairy cows from the United States agricultural industry would only reduce greenhouse emissions by about 0.7 percent while significantly lowering the available supply of essential nutrients for humans: protein requirements of 169 million people, calcium requirements of 254 million people, and energy requirements of 71.2 million people. Maybe it's because I work in the dairy industry, but I rarely hear what other industries are doing to lower their GHGs. What have you seen?
