WASHINGTON, March 21, 2022 - The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) reminds those in the path of the severe weather forecast for the Southeast this week, to take steps now to keep their food safe, and for farmers and ranchers to take proactive steps to protect their livestock. The weather system is forecast to bring severe storms, including damaging winds, severe rain, potential flooding, hail and even tornadoes to parts of the Southern Plains and Gulf Coast starting today. Cattle have grazed these grasslands for over a century and Debbie Lyons-Blythe, a cattle rancher of a certified Angus herd wants to keep it that way. "When you talk about cattle ranching and the importance of of what we do, it's really about being an environmentalist," Lyons-Blythe said. "Here on our ranch, there's a number of things that we do, and the first thing is to maintain the prairie," Lyons-Blythe said.
